We are in post production right now with the new recording. Did I mention the title yet? Via Via - The Songs of Paolo Conte.

I sent along a couple of photos as well as, information on some upcoming concerts for this month.

Stay tuned on Facebook, Twitter and the website for further details on release, concerts and a whole lot more. We are busy little bees these days getting everything in place but we must say, we are quite excited about this special project. Paolo Conte has always been a musical hero to me so to record this album and to release it in the year where he turns 75 years, is quite something.....Viva Mr. P.C.

In Pre Production mode with Espresso Manifesto
August 10 2011
It has been a busy summer of getting material together, working on arrangements, working through parts in a residency and finally selecting material for the new recording. Oh and not to forget numerous emails back and forth with musicians and engineers in Italy to make this recording happen in the Motherland. We were in pre pre pre pre production mode – now we have finally graduated to Pre Production.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be narrowing down band arrangements with Ron Davis (my husband) and Bryden Baird for what we have finally decided upon – a record in tribute to Paolo Conte. Doing Conte’s work is something I have always talked about doing and seems that the time is right to finally do it. I will also have arranger Tommaso Vittorini, who has worked with Paolo Conte, work on this recording with us. I am really quite over the moon about this.

Conte is a legend, is responsible for the careers for many of Italy’s great singers like Mina, Celentano, Caterina Caselli. For me though, he is like the representative for all things we love about Italy. He represents the cantautore tradition. He has style. He is incredibly intelligent and creative. He is romantic. He is a craftsman. He is ironic. There is whimsy in what he does and there is a rich darkness as well. I could have chosen to do a collection of songs by various great writers – but for me, beginning with Conte was the logical first step because of the enormity of what he represents.

I am in the midst of scheduling hell, trying to nail down dates and musicians in order to make the recording in Italy possible. It would be a great dream come true to return to my roots and draw upon its energy for this once in a lifetime project.

I’ll be sharing more news about it as we go along……Dxo
Daniela Nardi's Espresso Manifesto part of Piazza Italia
May 27 2011
on Thursday, June 2nd join us for a day of fun—Italian style!
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification and to celebrate, the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario (ICCO) is transforming Yonge-Dundas Square into an Italian piazza.

In any Italian city the piazza is the hub of life for the community, the place where everyone meets to share a gelato, play a hearty game of briscola and generally enjoy a bit of la dolce vita.

On June 2nd Piazza Italia will recreate the vibe of a piazza—with music and special attractions that celebrate Italian culture and innovation. And of course, like any Italian celebration, there’s sure to be great food. Meet you in Piazza Italia!
